McCormick joined the farm (and our family) in 2015. All of the sheep in our spinner's flock were bought from Michigan farmers. Mick comes from the Lavender Fleece farm in Midland, MI. He's hand-gentle, friendly and curious. He's also a loner and prefers to graze away from the rest of the flock. Leicester Longwool is a critically endangered heritage breed. It's an honor to give Mick a home and help his breed proliferate.
Each year Mick grows long, thick, lustrous locks.that can grow to 7-8" in length if sheared yearly. His wool is some of the most versatile wool in te flock. In addition to being useful in felting or delightful to dye, Leicester Longwool can be handspun into an array of different sytle yarns. The fine, long fibers are sturdy and can produce a strong, thing yarn, but it can also be spun loosely and with texture, producing curly art yarns too. It's a favorite for rug making and weaving.
