Massey joined the farm (and our family) in 2016. All of the sheep in our spinner's flock were bought from Michigan farmers. Massey comes from the Ryan's Way farm in Adrian, MI. He's our biggest sheep and our biggest handful, since he's quite adept at throwing his weight around when he wants to! Despite that, he's hand-gentle, friendly and curious. His long wool locks are sheared yearly. After scouring, the locks glisten with luster. Locks can be dyed, lockspun into yarn or carded/combed into a smooth yarn.
Each year Massey grows long, curly, lustrous locks that can grow to 7-8" in length if sheared yearly. His wool is some of the most versatile wool in the flock. His wool is useful in felting and it's delightful to dye, When dyed, the locks are perfect for doll hair. Massey's teeswater genetics were crossed with some Blue Faced Leicester genes, improving the wool by making the butt end of the lock blockier, giving it more body and fullness. It's delightful to handspin from the lock, with the butt end finger-fluffed open. And if combed/carded into a smooth yarn, it gives great stitch definition and luster to the finished piece.
