Case joined the farm (and our family) in 2016. All of the sheep in our spinner's flock were bought from Michigan farmers. Case is a Conservation Breed and comes from the Ryan's Way farm in Adrian, MI. Although he's hand-gentle, he chooses to keep his distance from people and he's quick on his feet! Each year he grows long wavy, lustrous locks. Because we only shear Case once per year, his locks are often 6-7" in length when sheared. His wool is quite fine and yarn spun from his wool is next-to-the-skin soft, with a soft handle, nice drape and luster. His wool takes dye well and because of the greyish brown undertones of the wool, it dyes rich vibrant colors too.
When handspinning yarn, Case's wool is always a favorite of mine to work with. His wool is so versatile! His long locks lend themselves to handspinning bulky, textural, lockspun yarn, but when his wool is carded or combed into smooth roving, it can produce a fine, lustrous, strong thin yarn. Wensleydale wool is exceptional for weaving.
